I booked a stay through Agoda for around $1100, and everything was confirmed. Unfortunately, the host later canceled the booking due to an issue on their end, leaving me without accommodation. Agoda gave me two options: Option 1, a refund plus $83 in Agoda Cash (though the booking was already refundable until December, so this offer added barely anything), or Option 2, assistance with rebooking at no extra charge ("subject to hotel's availability"). Naturally, I chose Option 2. They sent me a secure link to re-enter my card info, though they couldn’t seem to charge the card on file. A few days passed, and nothing changed. When I checked with AMEX, they confirmed Agoda hadn’t attempted to charge my card. Despite reaching out to Agoda, I was told that because 48 hours had passed without my “acknowledgment,” they could no longer help—this was despite multiple agents confirming they saw the charge pending. After speaking with roughly 20 customer service agents, Agoda offered me just $120 and left me to find new accommodation on my own. Although they initially said they’d search for another option, they later claimed “system limitations” prevented them from assisting further. I never received any clarification on this and feel it’s unfair for Agoda to abandon my confirmed reservation without real support.
