I attempted to book a room through Agoda for April 2–4, but the system automatically changed the reservation to May 2–4 without me noticing until after the payment was complete. When I realized what had happened, I checked and saw that there was no option to change the dates, but it stated that I could cancel the booking and receive a full refund. I proceeded with the cancellation and called the hotel to explain the situation.
The hotel representative assured me that once they received the refund request from Agoda, they would approve it, and even confirmed that there were no rooms available at the same price, only at double the rate, which was out of my budget. I told them I wouldn’t be making a new booking.
Later that day, I received a call from the hotel asking why I hadn’t arrived. When I explained again that the offered room was too expensive and that I never confirmed any new reservation, they claimed they held the room for me anyway and would no longer refund the May 2–4 reservation. They also stated that they hadn’t received any cancellation request from Agoda, and even if it came through now, they wouldn’t approve a refund.
Despite being told, “Don’t worry, we’ll handle it,” I now find myself stuck with a reservation I never wanted, paying for a stay I never used. Agoda has been completely unhelpful, offering no support and not even contacting the hotel on my behalf.
