Academia.edu Denies Refund Despite Its Own 14-Day Policy

I am an Academia.edu Premium subscriber from Turkey and have been using the service with an original renewal price of 135 TRY. On February 5, 2026, my account was unexpectedly charged 1,500.00 TRY for the Premium renewal, which represents roughly a 1000% increase compared to my previous payment. According to Academia.edu’s own policy, users have a 14‑day period to cancel and request a refund. I contacted their support within this promised time window and clearly requested both cancellation of the subscription and a refund of the 1,500.00 TRY charge. However, instead of honoring this policy, support replied that they are unable to process refunds for subscription renewals and gave a generic explanation about how user payments help support research and improve their services. I find it unacceptable that the company both increased the price to such an extreme level and then refused to follow its own 14‑day refund commitment. I am requesting that Academia.edu urgently cancel my Premium subscription and issue a full refund of the 1,500.00 TRY charged on February 5, 2026.
