I got a +63 call from Amazon about a refund; how can I tell what scam the caller was attempting?

If you received a +63 call claiming to be Amazon about a refund,

Treat it as an Amazon impersonation scam;

• The likely scam:
– A refund/overpayment scam, where the caller claims you're owed a refund and then pretends too much money was refunded
– An account-takeover scam, where they ask for your Amazon password or one-time verification code
– A remote-access scam, where they ask you to install software so they can supposedly process the refund
– A payment scam, where they eventually demand gift cards, a bank transfer, or another payment to “correct” the refund
