2018 VW Transporter Comfortline Passenger Airbag Failed to Deploy in Crash

On June 17, 2026, I was involved in a traffic accident on the Ankara–Niğde highway while driving my 2018 Volkswagen Transporter Camlıvan Comfortline. During the crash, the driver's airbag deployed — but the front passenger airbag did not, and the passenger sitting next to me suffered a cracked ribcage as a direct result. The failure of the passenger airbag to deploy in a vehicle of this trim level is a major safety scandal and a situation that directly endangered a human life.
When I contacted the authorized service center, Tamaş, after the accident, I was told that the vehicle might not have a passenger airbag. That explanation is simply not acceptable for a 2018 Transporter in Comfortline trim. I have taken this vehicle exclusively to Tamaş for every single service since it was new — all maintenance, every visit, no other shop has ever touched it. Despite that, the fact that such a critical safety component either wasn't in the vehicle or failed to function is, in my view, nothing short of an open invitation to death.
I am demanding that Volkswagen and Tamaş conduct a detailed, official technical inspection of my vehicle's airbag system — with particular focus on the passenger airbag — and that the full results of that inspection be delivered to me in writing. I am also demanding that the material and emotional damages I have suffered as a result of this safety failure be fully compensated. I urge that this matter be treated with the seriousness it deserves and that immediate action be taken to prevent others from suffering far worse consequences in a similar crash.
