Turkish Airlines Mexico Tourist Tax Refund Rejected

2

I purchased a one-way Istanbul–Mexico City (IST–MEX) ticket from Turkish Airlines for my travel dated 23 June 2026, under PNR code SZ8ATF, through your mobile application. In addition to the base ticket price, an item labeled as UK-coded Mexico Tourist Tax in the amount of ₺2,618.55 was charged to me. However, under the provisions of Mexico’s Ley Federal de Derechos (Article 8) and Ley de Migración (Article 52), holders of a Mexican Permanent Resident Card are legally exempt from this tourist tax. Despite being a permanent resident, your system automatically added this tax to the total price solely based on my foreign passport information and did not recognize the legal exemption granted to permanent residents. On 2 August 2026, I submitted a request via the feedback form on the Turkish Airlines website, attaching my permanent residence card and referencing the relevant articles of law to request a refund of the UK-coded tourist tax. Nevertheless, I was given purely template, generic responses and my refund request was rejected with the explanation that “such a service is not available” without any concrete legal basis or individual assessment of my case. Charging me a tourist tax that is neither requested by the Mexican state nor applicable to me under Mexican law due to my exemption as a permanent resident, and then refusing to refund this amount despite my explicit and documented request, is in conflict with both applicable law and basic consumer rights. This situation has arisen because your system does not take into account the legal exemption that applies to permanent residents during the ticket purchase process in the mobile application. I request that my victimization be remedied and that the ₺2,618.55 collected under the UK-coded Mexico Tourist Tax be urgently refunded to me. Should this unjust collection not be corrected and the amount not be refunded, I would like to state that, in light of the relevant legal regulations and documents I have provided, I will take the matter to the competent consumer protection and legal authorities.
