Turkish Airlines Took Away My Right to Cancel My Ticket as a Student

On March 18, 2025, I purchased a Turkish Airlines ticket with PNR T8CRWR for the ADB-LAX route. Due to incomplete and misleading guidance from customer service, I lost my right to cancel the ticket. Even though I am a student and my student ID was registered in the system, the ticketing was processed at the regular fare. I noticed this immediately after the ticket was issued and contacted customer service within minutes. The representative told me that the only solution was to fill out a complaint form and wait for a response by the next day. However, the key issue here is that the reply to the form arrives the following day, while the cancellation period was only 24 hours. Instead of being told this crucial information, I was directed to an irrelevant complaint process that wasted valuable time. If I had simply been informed that I could cancel the ticket within 24 hours due to a pricing error, I would have canceled and rebooked with the correct student fare. Instead, I was only told to submit a pricing complaint with no other solution offered. I submitted the complaint immediately and received a rejection at 15:09 on March 19. Later that evening, when I learned I needed to change my return date, I called customer service again at 23:00. This time, the representative said I couldn’t change the date but could cancel and rebook. However, upon checking my ticket, they said more than 24 hours had passed and I could no longer cancel. When I asked why this wasn’t explained during my first call right after ticketing, I was again told to submit another complaint. While submitting the form, I specifically requested they review the call recordings and noted that I had not been properly informed about my cancellation rights. On March 20, I received another rejection stating that the 24-hour period had passed. I am asking for support regarding this financially damaging situation, as the ticket cost around ₺52,000. If not for the incorrect guidance from customer service, I would have been able to cancel the ticket in time and rebook using the correct date and discount. Despite the representative's mistake, Turkish Airlines has offered no assistance.
