On May 25, 2024, my Turkcell postpaid plan was renewed. My 20 GB plan was exhausted in just 6 days. Turkcell claims it's due to my usage, but I've been using the same plan for months, and it's impossible for me to finish it in 6 days.
That's the first issue. The second issue is when I tried to cancel my Turkcell subscription, they demanded ₺960 as a contract termination fee, which is against the law. According to the Ministry of Trade's subscription agreements regulation, consumers have the right to terminate indefinite or fixed-term subscriptions longer than one year at any time without penalty.
Despite this clear law, Turkcell insists on not complying with it. Previously, I canceled my internet subscription, paid ₺800 as a penalty, and had to go to the Consumer Arbitration Committee to get my money back after 2-3 months. It seems Turkcell's policy is to make people go through such hassles to get their money back.
As an informed individual, I know my rights, but is Turkcell, a major company, unaware of the law? How can they ignore it and charge people unjustly? Imagine a 65-year-old retired man in a village in Konya; how is he supposed to fight this? He'd have no choice but to pay. Thankfully, I’m young and knowledgeable enough not to fall into this trap. I condemn Turkcell for this behavior and will voice this issue on every platform available.
