SunExpress Canceled My Flight Due to Passport Issue

On October 4, 2024, I was supposed to fly from Izmir to Frankfurt on SunExpress flight XQ970. However, when I arrived at the counter to get my boarding pass, I was told my flight was canceled because my green passport had less than 3 months of validity left. Despite entering my passport details during check-in, no warning was given, and a seat was assigned to me.
Had I been notified about this issue during the ticket purchase or check-in process, I could have renewed my passport in time and avoided missing my important meeting. Since renewing my passport was the only option, I had to book a flight for the following week and was charged an additional 1933.32 TL. My flexible ticket benefits were not honored, and I spent hours waiting at the airport.
SunExpress needs to fix this flaw in their system immediately. If I wasn’t allowed to fly, the ticket should never have been sold or the seat assigned at check-in. Learning about the cancellation at the last minute threw all my plans into chaos. I request a refund for the extra fee and for my rights to be fully honored. If this situation isn’t resolved, I will escalate the matter to the appropriate authorities.
