I Face Gluten Contamination at Shake Shack Mall of Istanbul Despite Staff Assurance
On October 18, 2025, I ate at the Shake Shack location inside Mall of Istanbul. Since I have celiac disease, I carefully asked the staff whether the fryer oil was used only for french fries or also for chicken products. The employee confidently told me that only fries were fried in that oil. Relying on this information, I ordered a large fries and a drink (credit card payment, approval code: 406816).
When I started eating, I noticed visible bread crumbs and chicken pieces in the fries. I was shocked — I had eaten here before and trusted that their fryers were kept separate. Unfortunately, due to this false information, I experienced severe stomach pain and diarrhea the following day.
For people with gluten sensitivity or celiac disease, accurate information from restaurant staff is critical to their health. I’m requesting that Shake Shack issue a formal apology, retrain their staff to correctly inform customers about allergen risks, and take necessary precautions to prevent this from happening again. Misleading customers about food safety can have serious health consequences and damages trust in the brand.
