I am writing to report a serious component failure and the unsatisfactory response I received from the authorized service regarding my Renault Megane E-Tech (License Plate: 34H**189).
On January 8, 2026, at approximately 10:55 PM, while driving on the highway in rainy weather under normal conditions, the battery protection cover underneath my vehicle detached from its clips and began dragging on the road. This failure occurred during standard highway driving and clearly points to a manufacturing or assembly defect, not user misuse.
I took the vehicle to Renault Ernaz Authorized Service in İzmit (Kocaeli). Despite the nature of the issue, the service refused warranty coverage, claiming the damage was caused by “deep water.” I categorically reject this explanation, as no such condition existed and the part failed during ordinary use.
I then contacted Renault General Headquarters and requested a formal investigation, stating that I have dashcam footage proving there was no external impact or deep water exposure. I was called back to the same service on January 14, 2026, for a re-inspection.
Instead of correcting their assessment, the service changed its justification to “scraping the underside” and once again refused warranty coverage. I was initially given a repair quote of approximately $429, which was later reduced to $380. I have made no payment, as I firmly believe this issue is caused by a defect in the clips securing the battery protection cover.
My vehicle is still under warranty, and this is the first time I have experienced such a problem. A battery protection cover detaching during normal driving is a serious safety and quality issue. I have been dealing with this matter for six days without receiving a fair or reasonable solution.
I request that the repair be fully covered under warranty, that the clips be properly inspected and replaced, and that the $380 charge be completely waived. I expect Renault to recognize this as a defect rather than attributing it to unfounded external factors, and to provide a written response after reviewing my dashcam footage.
Furthermore, this incident posed a significant safety risk. The cover was close to detaching completely; had it fallen off, it could have caused serious damage to vehicles behind me and potentially led to a life-threatening accident. Renault’s attempt to shift responsibility for such a dangerous failure has seriously undermined my trust in the brand. I expect a resolution that reflects Renault’s commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
