MG ZS EV 2023 Misinformation on Range & Charging Issues
On November 5, 2024, I purchased a brand-new MG ZS EV Luxury 2023 model with 0 km mileage. However, the vehicle’s advertised range and actual performance are completely different, making long-distance travel extremely inconvenient and costly.
Upon delivery, with 40% charge, the car displayed a 178 km range. I drove 80 km home on ECO mode, keeping my speed between 80-90 km/h, with kinetic energy recovery set to level 3, yet upon arrival, my battery had dropped to 9% with only 28 km remaining.
A few hours later, I set out for Ankara and charged the vehicle at the nearest DC fast charger for an hour, reaching 90% charge before continuing. By the time I arrived at Uşak Arte Mola facilities (241 km away), the battery had drained to 13%, requiring another hour-long charge. Concerned about range anxiety, I located the next DC charger 223 km ahead at Gülnar rest stop, where I arrived with only 7% charge left and once again had to charge for an hour.
Ultimately, a 660 km journey required three full battery charges, costing ₺1850 and adding over 3 hours of delay. Upon reaching my destination, I had to charge the vehicle again, confirming that MG's claim of 440 km maximum range is entirely misleading—in real-world driving, I barely managed 200-250 km per charge.
Adding to the frustration, three separate tire pressure warnings appeared throughout the trip, despite manually adjusting all tire pressures to 2.5 bar before departure. The warning persisted, even though the display showed even pressure across all tires.
When I attempted to contact Ankara Doğan Trend Automobility Service, no one answered, and the call disconnected after a while. The dealership directed me to their technical team, but their troubleshooting did not resolve the issue. When I reached out to service, they simply created a service request, but I have yet to receive any follow-up.
Even if I had achieved 350-380 km instead of 440 km, I could have accepted some variation, but 220 km is completely unacceptable. What was supposed to be an exciting first trip in my new car turned into one of the worst travel experiences of my life.
