Denied Boarding on Kiwi.com Flight Despite Valid Transit Rights

November 11, 2024 5:41 PM372

I am a Bulgarian citizen, and on October 11, 2024, I booked a flight from Istanbul to Tokyo with a layover in Beijing through Kiwi.com. At Istanbul Airport, Turkmenistan Airlines unjustly denied my boarding, claiming I needed a visa for China. As a Bulgarian citizen, I am entitled to a 24-hour visa-free transit in China, which has been confirmed by the Chinese Immigration Office.

Despite presenting this official information, the airline staff refused to allow me to board. As a result, I lost my ticket worth 400 CHF. The Chinese Government Office explicitly states: "If you can arrive in Beijing, you qualify for a 24-hour transit visa exemption based on your travel details. Applications are subject to on-site evaluation."

This refusal stems from the airline staff’s lack of understanding of transit policies. I had all the necessary documentation to prove my right to travel. I am requesting immediate assistance, reimbursement for my ticket, and an assigned case number. If no resolution is provided, I will pursue legal action and report this issue to consumer protection agencies. Prompt action is needed to address this injustice.
