IKEA Treated Us Like Criminals for Carrying a Dismantled Scooter
On 26.07.2025, we entered the IKEA Antalya store. We toured the first floor and then went up to the second. My 6-year-old son had a mini scooter with him. A female security guard inside the store (I couldn’t see her badge and she didn’t give her name) told us that riding a scooter inside was not allowed. We said she was right, but explained that since I’m pregnant, going back downstairs to hand it over would be difficult. So we dismantled the scooter and placed it in our shopping bag in a boxed format, similar to how it's sold in stores (as if we had just bought it and weren’t using it). The security guard then acted like an FBI agent, saying “I’m calling my superiors,” as if she had just caught an international criminal. If we had bought a scooter and carried it in a bag, or even bought a knife or sharp object (which the store sells plenty of), wouldn’t those be more dangerous than a dismantled, unused scooter? Use some common sense! Riding a scooter may be prohibited, fine—but unless you can show me a written rule stating that carrying one is also banned, I’ll escalate this. I also intend to file a complaint against that staff member who thinks she’s a secret agent.
