On August 19, 2024, I purchased a GoPro Hero 12 Black from Fethiye Vatan Bilgisayar for my son during our vacation. He barely used it, mainly for underwater shots. However, when he tried to record recently, the camera overheated within 15-20 minutes and then shut itself down. We repeated the process multiple times, and it kept happening.
On February 2, 2025, I took it back to Vatan Bilgisayar for a warranty claim, and they sent it for servicing. It was returned to me on February 14, 2025, with a report that shocked even the store employee. The service team simply updated the software and claimed that during their tests, the camera didn’t shut down. But in the same report, they also admitted that high FPS, Hypersmooth, Voice Control, Wi-Fi, and SD card activity contribute to overheating and that the camera will shut off when it reaches a certain temperature. Their "solution"? Reduce video quality, turn off features, and let the camera cool down before continuing.
Now I ask:
Why did I pay so much for a camera if I can’t use its features?
What’s the point of high-quality recording if I have to reduce resolution?
Why should I miss capturing important moments just to let the camera cool down?
I tested the camera again at home after picking it up. I turned off Wi-Fi and Voice Control, lowered the resolution, and used the exact SD card they recommended (SanDisk Extreme Pro U3 V30 Class 10). The result? It still overheated and shut down after just 19 minutes, becoming too hot to even touch!
It’s clear that the service team did nothing but update the software and try to dismiss my complaint. This could be a manufacturing defect, or another serious issue, but I don’t know—I only know that I spent a lot of money on a camera that doesn’t work as advertised.
I will be sending it back again, this time with video proof and temperature measurements. Let’s see what excuse they give me this time. GoPro, stand behind your product and provide a real solution!
