Google Gemini Charged Me $17 Even Though the Student Plan Was Advertised as Free for One Year
I signed up for Google Gemini’s one-year free student plan. Because I am a student and it was clearly stated that the first year would be free, I began using the service with confidence. However, when I entered the second month, I noticed that $17 was charged to my VakıfBank card on January 2, 2026. The transaction receipt shows the transaction/invoice number 736071307761.
I did not give any consent to switch to a paid plan, nor did I receive any notification or warning. Despite this, I was charged early and without notice for a service that was supposed to be free for one full year, which caused me financial inconvenience.
While trying to resolve the issue, I was told that the process needed to be handled through the Apple App Store, but no concrete solution has been provided so far. I request that the $17 charge be refunded to me as soon as possible, and that Google Gemini manage this student plan more carefully and transparently to prevent similar issues from happening again.
