I bought something in Dubai, UAE on October 23, 2023. It cost me more than 16,100 dirhams, which should be around 4,359 USD based on the exchange rate of 3.67 dirhams per USD. However, Garanti Bank took 130,353.91 Turkish Lira from my credit card, which is equal to 4,635 US dollars. Based on my calculations, the amount charged to my credit card is around 7,000 TRY more than I expected. I'm really unhappy with how expensive this is. Even if we consider the possible commissions, I couldn't find any reason to justify such high prices. I've used credit cards in other countries many times before and I've never had this problem. I tried to contact customer service, but I couldn't find a suitable representative to talk about this issue. Even though I asked for a callback, they told me that no one could get back to me. If there's a mistake in the transaction, I really need it to be fixed, or I'd like to talk to someone who can explain what happened. If not, I'm gonna close all my credit cards, bank, and investment accounts with Garanti BBVA when the billing cycle ends.
