My Expedia Reservation Canceled by Hotel – No Refund Processed

I made a hotel reservation through Zenhotels and paid in advance to avoid any issues. To confirm my booking, I called the hotel directly, only to be told they had no availability and would issue a refund if I canceled. I proceeded with the cancellation. Now, the hotel representative is telling me I need to contact Zenhotels, which they claim is a subsidiary of Expedia, for my refund. This process is getting unnecessarily complicated. I need assistance to resolve this and get my refund as promised. Please advise on the next steps!
