Europcar Sarajevo Fails to Refund $229 Security Deposit After Smoking Fee Deduction
On May 22, 2026, I rented a Skoda Octavia from the Europcar office at Sarajevo Airport, and on May 29, 2026, I returned the vehicle without any issues—clean and undamaged. During the rental, a $344 deposit was taken, and I paid approximately $499 for the rental itself.
Upon returning the vehicle, $115 was deducted from my deposit under the claim that smoking had occurred in the vehicle, and I was told this amount would not be refunded. They explicitly stated that the remaining $229 would be refunded to me on or shortly after May 29, 2026. However, no refund has been issued to my account since that day.
When I called customer service in Turkey regarding the matter, they stated they could not reach the international office and were unable to assist me. Although I submitted a complaint through the "Contact Us" section on Europcar's website, I received no response. I have both my bank statements and the photos I took of the vehicle upon drop-off.
I demand that the $229 deposit amount, which the Europcar Sarajevo Airport office promised to refund, be returned to me as soon as possible without any further deductions.
