Avis Rental Extra Fees - Scratch Charge Disputed

I rented a black Opel Astra 1.2 station wagon from AVIS at Düsseldorf Airport with the reservation number 40041995TR0. I picked up the vehicle on 25 November 2025 and returned it on 2 December 2025. When I made the reservation, the rental fee was shown as €203, but at pick-up I was charged an additional €279 in extra fees and €53.05 in taxes, none of which were clearly explained to me at the counter. The first car given to me broke down after about 30 kilometers, and I had serious difficulty driving it back to the AVIS office; despite this, I was charged €22 for fuel for that first car for a supposed distance of 83 km, which I find unfair since the issue was due to the vehicle’s technical problem, not my fault. When I returned the replacement car on 2 December 2025, I was informed that I would be charged €769 for damage—a scratch on the rear bumper that may have occurred while unloading luggage and a roughly 1 cm scratch on the outer corner of the driver’s door—minor marks that can easily occur in any parking lot and which might not even have been caused by me. I believe charging €769 for such small scratches is disproportionate and unreasonable. Throughout the process, the staff took advantage of my limited German and English, did not clearly inform me about the extra fees, and did not transparently explain the damage assessment. I feel I was not properly informed and was placed under financial pressure. I request the cancellation or significant reduction of the €769 damage charge, a refund of the unfair €22 fuel cost for the first broken-down vehicle, and a clear review of the extra fees added at pick-up. I expect AVIS to review this rental in good faith and correct these charges accordingly.
