American Eagle Outfitters Issues Gift Card Instead Of Refund

I just bought some summer clothes from the American Eagle Outfitters website. I snagged a sweet $12.99 promo code that was up for grabs at the time. Upon receiving the package, I was let down to discover that the products, particularly the summer shorts, did not live up to their appearance in the pictures. So, I ended up returning everything on the same day. Instead of refunding my credit card, the customer service at American Eagle Outfitters decided to issue a gift card in my name. I didn't ask for this. I already gave back the clothes because I wasn't happy with the quality. So, why did you go ahead and give me a gift card without asking me first? Moreover, the promo code I used ended up being a waste. They said I couldn't use it anymore. I am extremely unhappy with this experience.
