Unwanted WhatsApp Video Call From Cameroon Number Raised Serious Security Concerns
On Sunday, September 21, while using WhatsApp on my iOS phone, I unexpectedly received a video call from a +237 number (Cameroon). I have absolutely no personal or business connections with this country. I immediately blocked the number, but the incident left me uncomfortable and concerned. I have read about similar cases where users faced financial losses or scams, which only adds to my worries.
So far, I have not suffered any financial loss, unauthorized payment, or data breach. However, I am deeply concerned about the unauthorized use of my phone number, the potential compromise of my WhatsApp account information, and the possibility that my private messages or personal data could be accessed by third parties.
Furthermore, I want to make it clear that if my personal information were ever misused in fraudulent activities—such as opening companies in my name, making unauthorized purchases, or creating debts—I will not accept any responsibility. I hold WhatsApp fully accountable for ensuring the security of its platform.
I am urgently requesting that WhatsApp implement stronger security measures to block such unwanted international calls from suspicious numbers and protect users against potential fraud.
