Received a Suspicious WhatsApp Video Call From +237 Asking for Money

On November 23, 2025, at around 11:44 AM, I received a video call on WhatsApp from a foreign number starting with +237. Out of curiosity, I answered the call, and a man speaking Turkish asked me for money, saying “Give me money for the sake of God.” When I asked how he got my number, he claimed he found it through WhatsApp and said they were in a difficult situation. He told me to send money and that he would share his IBAN if I messaged him on WhatsApp. I immediately ended the call, and this situation made me extremely uncomfortable.

I am worried that this person might use my phone number or name to create fake accounts, register businesses, or open other accounts under my identity, or otherwise misuse my personal information without my consent. I did not send any money, did not share any information, and I do not accept any responsibility for anything related to this individual.

I request that WhatsApp perform all necessary security checks related to my number and account, investigate the source of such calls if possible, and ensure that my personal data and accounts are protected against unauthorized use. I also ask to be informed about such threats and that proper safety measures be implemented to prevent similar incidents.
