Peugeot 2008 Oil Consumption Problem and Timing Belt Failure Concerns
I have had all maintenance and servicing for my Peugeot 2008 performed exclusively at authorized Peugeot service centers. My vehicle has been serviced at 15,000, 32,000, 47,000, and 57,000 kilometers. Despite this, the vehicle displayed an engine oil level warning when it had reached just 47,000 kilometers. Following this warning, I first visited the İzmir K******** authorized service center, where they simply topped off the engine oil and sent me on my way without investigating the underlying problem. To make matters worse, one of the employees told me, "If you want, we can replace the timing belt outside the dealership. They would charge you $999–$1,399 for it here." This comment seriously damaged my trust in both the Peugeot brand and the service center itself. Because of this experience, I decided not to return to K******** and instead took my vehicle to Novamer Otomotiv. When the engine oil level warning appeared again at 57,000 kilometers, they simply looked at the maintenance reminder light and gave me an automatic response, saying, "It's time for your scheduled maintenance." However, I know that this warning light can also indicate various other faults and sensor-related problems, not just routine maintenance requirements. My vehicle is supposed to undergo scheduled maintenance every 15,000 kilometers, yet it started showing an oil level warning after only 10,000 kilometers. Whenever I visit an authorized service center, they perform routine maintenance and send me away without investigating the actual cause of the oil consumption or offering a permanent solution. All these visits and procedures are already documented in your service records. Furthermore, Peugeot is treating my vehicle as if it has lost its warranty because it was serviced at 32,000 kilometers. Since every single maintenance service has been performed at authorized Peugeot dealerships, I cannot accept the decision to void my vehicle's warranty simply because one service was delayed by 2,000 kilometers. The reason for that delay was that both my mother and father were undergoing treatment in the oncology department at the same time. Given these difficult family circumstances, I was unable to take my vehicle to the service center on schedule. Their health was understandably my top priority during that period. Nevertheless, using this delay as an opportunity to declare my vehicle out of warranty, while simultaneously failing to investigate the oil consumption issues between 47,000 and 57,000 kilometers, has completely destroyed my trust in the brand. The service center also informed me that replacing the timing belt would be a chargeable repair. They claim that the normal replacement interval is 80,000 or 120,000 kilometers, and that if the belt needs to be replaced earlier, they will not replace it unless an oil pressure warning appears. However, their own service report recommends replacing the belt, while also stating that if the replacement is performed ahead of schedule, the customer must pay for it. How is this an acceptable explanation? What kind of warranty can a manufacturer offer if it cannot even take responsibility for replacing a potentially defective timing belt? I expect Peugeot to have the engine oil consumption problem and the potential timing belt failure risk thoroughly investigated by its authorized technical department, identify the actual underlying causes, reconsider its warranty decision in a reasonable and customer-friendly manner, and carry out all necessary repairs or part replacements without charging me anything extra. I also specifically request an investigation into how my case was handled at the İzmir K******** and Novamer Otomotiv service centers. Rather than being dismissed with generic, routine responses, I want to deal with a competent and reliable representative who genuinely focuses on identifying and resolving the problem. As a result of everything I have experienced, I am now seriously considering never purchasing another vehicle from Peugeot, Opel, or Citroën again. I also want to ensure that other customers do not have to go through similar experiences.
