I was one of the first people who preordered a Tesla Cybertruck yet there is no delivery still. Why are they having a hard time mass-producing?

Multiple factors have contributed to the delays in mass production of the Tesla Cybertruck. The truck's big windshield and flat body panels are made of stainless steel, which creates manufacturing challenges. Because stainless steel is notoriously difficult to work with and to tool, the production process becomes more intricate. Though distinctive, the angular design complicates manufacturing; parts like windshield wipers are subject to close inspection.

The COVID-19 pandemic initially caused pre-production delays, which resulted in a shift in the original timeline from late 2021 to 2023. In addition, the implementation of an 800-volt architecture brought in new production considerations in an effort to save costs for heavy vehicles.

The difficulties are exacerbated by the Cybertruck's angular stainless steel body panels. Compared to the steel commonly used in automobile manufacturing, stainless steel is costlier and heavier despite being more durable. The complexity of the manufacturing process is increased by the fact that shaping and welding this material are said to be both costly and challenging.

Delivery of the Cybertruck to early reservation holders has been continuously delayed due to production issues, unusual material choices, and high demand that is over a million preorders with a $100 deposit only.
