Sunshine Hotel Ovacık Neglects Maintenance and Front Desk Customer Service
As someone who has spent vacations in this region for about 12 years and knows the local hotels and villas well, I want to share my experience regarding our stay at Sunshine Hotel Ovacık Fethiye—where four of us stayed across three blocks for three nights and four days from May 27, 2026, to May 30, 2026—so hotel management can address their shortcomings. Even though we made our vacation plans last-minute just a day in advance, our expectation was simply to have accommodation and reasonably enjoy the all-inclusive concept.
One of the worst aspects of the hotel was the entertainment team. A man who constantly talked loudly and swore repeatedly, along with his crew, spent their time interacting and having fun with only three or four selected families while practically ignoring all other guests. We specifically noticed them continuously hyping up a family from Diyarbakır on their first-ever vacation, completely erasing any boundary of professional distance. I believe hotel staff should maintain a professional boundary and balance their familiarity with guests. Furthermore, entertainment was practically nonexistent over the four days, with only a single event organized.
The water slide pool in the middle made general pool use difficult, rendering the area impractical. We couldn't tell if there was a Turkish bath or sauna; I didn't see a single sign or directional marker anywhere in the hotel for these facilities. The playground, which is essential for families with children, was also out of order. Location-wise, it is challenging for those arriving without a car, as there are no businesses in the immediate vicinity, making guests entirely dependent on the hotel—though thankfully, there is a kiosk inside the hotel.
The overall condition of the hotel was incredibly run-down. The furniture, kitchen, tables, chairs, and bar equipment were completely worn out. Although staff attempted to clean, most areas were physically falling apart, making the need for renovation blatantly clear. The front desk was one of our biggest disappointments. From check-in to check-out, we received practically zero attention. A female receptionist spoke poor Turkish, mumbled under her breath, and barely answered questions without even looking at us. We requested towels that never arrived, and we didn't bother asking again. The room lacked an electric kettle, and the TV barely had any decent channels.
Despite all these negative aspects, there were a few positive points. The food was quite delicious for the price we paid. The snack bar was good, and I would particularly like to thank the woman making flatbread (gözleme). The garden and landscaping were clearly well maintained, making the outdoor area visually pleasant. Housekeeping cleaned our room daily without issue. The guest demographic mostly consisted of middle-class Turkish families, many enjoying their first vacation, making it suitable for its target audience as long as expectations are set appropriately.
In conclusion, if management at Sunshine Hotel Ovacık Fethiye recognizes these deficiencies, sternly warns the entertainment team and front desk staff, provides customer service training, and takes steps to renovate run-down areas, the property could remain a viable option for budget-conscious middle-class Turkish families. I am sharing this review in hopes that management implements fixes and provides clear communication to guests regarding these improvements.
