SunExpress Damaged My Luggage and Offered an Insulting Compensation

On January 2, 2025, I flew with SunExpress from Amsterdam to Ankara, and when I arrived, I found my suitcase severely damaged. An official damage report was filed, confirming that the luggage was completely unusable, as a part of it was broken off and missing.

Since there were no replacement suitcases available at the airport, I was told to submit a damaged baggage claim and that I would receive compensation. After doing so, SunExpress offered me ₺1020 to buy a new suitcase. This amount is laughable! In today’s economy, ₺1020 isn’t even enough to buy a small cabin bag, let alone a full-sized suitcase.

I demand fair compensation that actually covers the cost of a proper replacement suitcase. SunExpress must take responsibility for the damage they caused and provide a reasonable refund immediately!

Sunexpress contacted me and stated that 1020 TL was determined considering that there was no invoice for my suitcase (of course, the invoice for the suitcase I bought 4 years ago was not available) and depreciation (how can a 4-year-old suitcase worth thousands of liras depreciate?). The suitcase was not worn out, it was a hard shell and had clearly been thrown and hit a hard and sharp object, as there is a hand-sized dent right in the middle. This situation cannot be justified with the explanations given and my grievance was never resolved.
