On December 6, 2025, I purchased two perfumes — Chanel No. 5 EDP and Coco Noir — at the Sephora Tunalı store in Ankara, paying a total of $419. When I opened the boxes at home, I noticed a black particle inside the lighter-colored bottle of Chanel No. 5. After consulting a few people familiar with the industry and also asking ChatGPT, I was told that a brand like Chanel has extremely precise production and filtration systems, and finding a particle like this is unacceptable, raising concerns that the product might not be authentic. For the other perfume, Coco Noir, I found that its longevity was noticeably weaker compared to the tester in the store. Because the bottle is dark, I couldn’t check it for similar particles.
Concerned about both products, I went to the Sephora Tunalı store to explain the situation and requested a refund. I was told the products would be sent for inspection, but I was later informed that my refund request had been rejected with a very general and unsatisfactory explanation such as “Longevity may vary seasonally.” Encountering a situation with questionable quality on high-end brand products like Chanel, and then being brushed off by Sephora with such a superficial explanation, left me both disappointed and distrustful.
I request that the products be re-examined independently and in detail, and that my refund request for the two perfumes I purchased be accepted so that my payment is fully refunded to me.
