I Lost $365 Canceling a Flight Qatar Airways Changed, Not Me
I had purchased tickets from Qatar Airways for flight QR246 Istanbul–Bangkok on October 9, 2026, and flight QR845 Kuala Lumpur–Istanbul on November 18, 2036. Later, the airline made a schedule/aircraft change and offered me the right to either change my flight or cancel my ticket. I chose the cancellation option so that I could purchase a new ticket for different dates.
However, during the cancellation process, I was never clearly told how much would be deducted, what the refund amount would be, or what terms applied. Even though it was Qatar Airways that changed the flight, I later realized that the transaction was processed as if I were canceling voluntarily, and that I was never informed about the deduction during this process.
Even though my total ticket price was $650, a deduction of $365 was made, and only $287 was refunded to me. Had I been clearly informed in advance that such a high deduction would be made, I would not have chosen the cancellation option this way. Furthermore, it was not me who caused the change — it was the company itself.
I contacted Qatar Airways by email regarding this matter, but the justification and amount of the deduction still remain unacceptable and unreasonable to me. Because the flight change was caused by the company, and because the deduction amount was not communicated transparently before the cancellation, I am requesting a refund of the $365 deduction, or at the very least, that an equivalent value in flight points be credited to my account.
I kindly ask that this lack of information be addressed, that the process be reviewed again, and that the problem I've experienced be resolved.
