Qatar Airways Ticket Canceled Within 24 Hours but $1,472 Penalty Charged

I purchased airline tickets for four people through Erka Etkinlik with Qatar Airways for an outbound flight from Istanbul to Bali on January 14, 2026, and a return flight from Tokyo to Istanbul on January 29, 2026. During the purchase process, the representative I spoke with by phone at Erka Etkinlik clearly stated that if I canceled the booking 24 hours before the flight, a penalty of 190 USD would apply, but that there would be no penalty at all for cancellations made one week before the flight. In addition, Qatar Airways’ official website clearly states that cancellations made within 24 hours of ticket purchase are free of charge. Relying on both the verbal information provided during the phone call and the airline’s clearly stated 24-hour free cancellation policy, I proceeded with the purchase. I completed the ticket purchase on January 6, 2026 at 12:07 PM and submitted the cancellation request on January 7, 2026 at 9:45 AM, meaning less than 24 hours had passed. Despite this, a total amount of approximately $1,472 was charged to me for four passengers as a penalty or fee. When I contacted Erka Etkinlik customer service, the only explanation provided was that “this is how the process works,” without any detailed or satisfactory clarification. Considering both the information given at the time of sale and Qatar Airways’ official policy allowing free cancellation within 24 hours, I find this charge completely unjustified and harmful. No refund has been issued to date. For my Qatar Airways ticket arranged through Erka Etkinlik, I am requesting an unconditional refund of the full amount of approximately $1,472 that was deducted from me, as well as a clear explanation regarding the misinformation and hardship I experienced.
