Personality.co Charged Me $64 Without Clear Consent After a $2 Trial

January 5 3:04 PM363

I used a service on the website Personality.co that was presented only as a “personality test trial” and listed at a price of approximately $2 USD. During the purchase process, it was not clearly, explicitly, or understandably disclosed that after the trial period, the service would convert into a recurring, automatically renewing subscription costing approximately $32 USD. I did not encounter any checkbox, explicit consent request, or clear disclosure screen regarding this subscription.

On January 5, 2026, while reviewing my account transactions, I noticed that on December 1, 2025, and December 29, 2025, a total of approximately $64 USD (two charges of $32 USD each) had been withdrawn from my Garanti Bank virtual credit card without my knowledge or explicit consent. At no point—neither during registration nor afterward—was I clearly informed or reminded that the trial would convert into a paid plan with recurring charges applied to my card.

Under Consumer Protection Law No. 6502 and the Regulation on Distance Sales Contracts, charging consumers for fees that are not clearly disclosed and explicitly approved is unlawful. For automatically renewing subscriptions, obtaining separate and explicit consent from the consumer is mandatory. Within this framework, I see no legal basis for the $64 USD in subscription fees charged to me.

After discovering the issue, I contacted the company via email and requested a full refund of the $64 USD charged without my consent and the cancellation of my subscription. The company responded by stating that they would only refund the most recent charge and that they would not accept my refund request for the first charge. I explicitly do not accept this partial refund offer and clearly object to both charges. On the same day, I also initiated a chargeback/dispute process with Garanti Bank, which is still under review.

I did not actively benefit from this service, and I have suffered financial harm due to this misleading subscription practice. I request that Personality.co fully refund the total amount of approximately $64 USD, completely cancel my subscription, and conduct the necessary review to prevent similar consumer harm in the future.
