Huawei Watch GT 3 Water Damage Issue and Service Asking ₺9500 for Repair
The "Huawei Watch GT 3 Elegant 42MM - Gold" smartwatch, which I purchased on 07/04/2022, malfunctioned on 10/10/2024. Despite the product being advertised with 5ATM water resistance and used under appropriate conditions, the technical service attributed the water damage to user error. However, no specific user error such as impact, use in hot water, or abrasion was mentioned, which indicates that the issue is likely due to a product defect. It seems the water ingress was caused by a malfunction, possibly related to a manufacturing defect—such as seals being compromised due to the device heating up while charging. I used the watch very carefully, and this suggests the problem is inherent to the product.
Moreover, when I sent the smartwatch to technical service for repair, not only did they fail to acknowledge that it might be a defective product, but they also quoted an unreasonable repair fee of ₺9500. This fee is far above the current average price of a new watch, which is around ₺5500. This pricing discrepancy makes the repair cost illogical and unfair. I am seeking a more reasonable resolution to this issue, as the product malfunction appears to be a result of poor manufacturing rather than user misuse.
An application was made to the Consumer Arbitration Committee. I was found to be right, but Huawei Turkey took me to court.
