We booked two rooms for four people at Ayanya Beach Bungalows on Avşa Island through hotels.com for July 16-17. We rented Glampy tents, which were presented on the hotels.com site with luxurious photos of the hotel and rooms. However, upon entering the room, my spouse killed 5-6 bugs/pests. There were hairs and stains from previous stays on the bed and towels.
The room had a useless air conditioner, and the toilet smelled so bad that it was unbearable. Being 7 months pregnant, I would have contracted an infection if we hadn't canceled the stay. After seeing the rooms, we met our friends on the beach to discuss what to do, and the unanimous decision was that we couldn't stay in the hotel. The sea at the hotel's private beach was filled with numerous jellyfish.
The hotel was practically empty, with maybe 15 guests at most. The pool was so murky that you couldn't see the bottom. When we informed the receptionist about the situation, they said they couldn't provide any refund, and we needed to contact hotels.com. Since hotels.com customer service doesn't operate on weekends, we couldn't reach them immediately.
After returning, we could only contact them during the week, but they were unhelpful and stated that they couldn't process a refund. We arrived at the hotel at 9 AM and, after the ordeal, had to find a new hotel. Finding two available rooms for the same day was challenging, and we lost an additional two hours. It was 4 PM by the time we settled into a clean hotel.
Our day turned into a nightmare. I will never consider booking through hotels.com again. There is no one to talk to or address the issues. It's difficult to reach the call center, and despite trying to communicate via email, there has been no response for days. When our friends reached the call center, they were told that the hotel didn't accept refunds, and hotels.com couldn't initiate any process.
