While I was an account holder with Garanti Bank A.Ş., my customer relationship was unilaterally terminated, and my accounts were closed without any written or verbal justification and without prior notice. Despite repeatedly contacting the bank via branch and customer services, I was only dismissed with the vague response of “bank decision,” with no legal basis or official notification provided. This practice violates the Banking Law No. 5411 (Articles 4 and 76), the BRSA Customer Rights Regulation, and the Consumer Protection Law. Legally, banks are required to provide justification and written notification when terminating a customer relationship, and doing so without reason constitutes an arbitrary action that infringes on citizens’ property and financial rights. As a result, my financial transactions were unfairly blocked, my daily and commercial life was negatively affected, the bank failed its duty of transparency and disclosure, and my grievance continues due to this unlawful action. On 07.08.2025 and 20.08.2025, I submitted requests via e-Government and registered mail to the General Directorate under Article 13 of the Personal Data Protection Law No. 698, seeking information about the data processed about me. However, I either received no response at all or vague, baseless replies such as “we don’t know.” I also called by phone, visited a branch, and reached out via email, yet no satisfactory solution has been provided. Despite the long time since my applications, I still have not received a clear answer. I explicitly request the following: 1) What personal data has your bank processed about me? 2) From what sources were these data obtained? 3) For what purposes were they processed and in which decision-making processes were they used? 4) On what data and grounds was the “decision not to work with me” based? 5) Under which legislation, internal policy, or procedure was this decision made? 6) I demand disclosure of the reasons not communicated to me. The responses given to my information requests under Article 13 of the Personal Data Protection Law have been insufficient, lacking legal justification, and my rights have been restricted. I request that the necessary action be taken and my legal rights protected.
