Duolingo Free Trial Led to an Unauthorized Charge

While using the Duolingo app on my Android phone, my credit card was charged $25 at 11:21 AM on September 8, 2026, without me seeing any confirmation screen or giving any consent to start a subscription. I only noticed that this amount had suddenly been charged to my card when I independently checked my transactions because I wanted to try the free version.

Approximately 15 minutes after noticing the charge, I canceled the subscription through the Google Play Store and also filed a charge dispute/refund request with my bank. The transaction is still showing as under review both on the Play Store and with my bank, and I have been told that the refund will be resolved within four days. I never knowingly or willingly authorized this charge at any stage.

I do not have money to throw away, and I demand that the $25 charged to my card without my authorization be refunded immediately and in full, that the subscription be completely canceled, and that I be provided with written information regarding this matter. Otherwise, I will pursue all necessary legal remedies and contact the relevant authorities.
