On March 17, 2025, I discovered a 634.88 EUR (₺26,178.35) unauthorized charge made to my World Card under the name BKGHotel at Booking.com*. What’s alarming is that no 3D Secure notification, no message, no verification request—nothing—was sent to me before this massive transaction occurred. It was done without my knowledge or consent.
This charge was pulled from my virtual card, and upon noticing it, I immediately contacted my bank. They canceled my card and internet banking access and reissued new credentials. I also filed a transaction dispute. However, I was told the dispute process could take anywhere between 50 to 200 days, which is completely unacceptable given the size of the unauthorized amount.
This breach shows a serious failure in the bank’s and Booking.com’s security protocols. If a transaction of this size can be approved without any customer verification or warning, how are we supposed to feel safe using our cards? I firmly believe the bank is at fault for its lack of security, and I intend to pursue legal action against both the bank and Booking.com.
I’ve already filed a complaint with the public prosecutor’s office and will continue to share updates on the progress of this case. To anyone else who’s gone through something similar—you are not alone. Let’s hold these companies accountable.
