Avis Edinburgh Haymarket Charged Extra Fees After Vehicle Return

I rented a vehicle through Booking.com from the Avis Edinburgh Haymarket office with a reservation dated December 27, 2025. When returning the vehicle, I was about 45 minutes late. When I arrived at the office, it was already closed and no staff were present, so I followed the instructions and left the car key in the key drop box. The contract showed the closing time as 4:00 PM, and my actual return time was 8:00 PM. Before returning the car, I fully refueled the vehicle, and on the day of return my credit card statement already shows two separate fuel payments.
Despite following all the conditions, $324.48 was later charged to my credit card under the categories of additional insurance, late return, and fuel charges. Although this charge was recorded in the system under the rental date of December 27, 2025, I only noticed it at the end of January when it appeared on my credit card statement. Since there was no additional insurance sold during the rental process and no fuel shortage, I believe these charges are completely unjustified.
When I contacted Booking.com customer service about the issue, I unfortunately did not receive constructive or solution-oriented support, which was contrary to my expectations. I request that both Avis Edinburgh Haymarket and Booking.com provide a clear and transparent explanation regarding these charges and that the full amount of $324.48 be refunded to me.
