I Face Water Leaks And Cracked Taillights On My 2024 BMW 118i Under Warranty

I would like to thank Borusan Inc. and the officials of the İzmir Özgörkey Authorized Service for arranging the replacement of the rear stop lights of my BMW 1.18i under warranty due to a manufacturing defect. I also sincerely thank the Özgörkey family and Özgörkey Customer Representative Ms. Hülya for covering the labor expenses through İzmir Özgörkey Automotive.

I purchased my 2024 BMW 118i, license plate 35 C** 586, as a brand-new vehicle on May 14, 2024, from Borusan Otomotiv İthalat ve Dağıtım A.Ş. Authorized Dealer İzmir-Bornova Özgörkey. All warranty and extended warranty documents are available, and the vehicle remains fully covered under warranty.

On December 4, 2025, I brought my vehicle to Borusan Authorized Dealer İzmir Özgörkey for routine scheduled maintenance. After the maintenance was completed, the vehicle was washed at the same authorized service center. Following the wash, it was discovered that water had accumulated inside the rear trunk lid area.

At my request, the vehicle underwent a more detailed inspection at Özgörkey on December 9, 2025. During this inspection, I was informed that hairline cracks had developed on the upper sections of the rear taillights due to sun exposure and that water had entered through these cracks. My vehicle has never been involved in an accident, suffered any impact damage, or undergone any modifications. No tinting film or similar application has ever been applied to the taillights. Furthermore, these hairline cracks were found in three of the four rear taillight units. We documented the issue with detailed photographs and video recordings.

Although the vehicle is still under warranty, my request to have all affected rear taillights replaced under warranty was denied. I was informed that the issue was being classified as user-caused damage and therefore would not be covered.

On December 9, 2025, I spoke again with İzmir Özgörkey, and I was instructed to contact Borusan Otomotiv İthalat ve Dağıtım A.Ş. directly. On December 10, 2025, I sent a detailed email to Borusan Otomotiv İthalat ve Dağıtım A.Ş. explaining the situation. However, I received no response for approximately six months.

After receiving no reply, I contacted BMW Germany by email on May 28, 2026. BMW Germany informed me that because the vehicle is located outside Germany, they would forward the matter to the authorized distributor in Turkey and that I would be contacted.

Subsequently, on June 1, 2026, at 2:50 PM, I received a phone call from Ms. Sibel of Borusan Grup A.Ş. from telephone number 0212 412 00 40. During the conversation, she stated that cracks in the rear taillights caused by sun exposure were considered user error. I requested that this assessment be provided to me in writing via email, but she informed me that she could not send such a statement in writing.

I believe that this conversation, along with previous calls, was recorded for customer satisfaction and quality assurance purposes, and I am currently considering pursuing the appropriate legal remedies.

In summary, I own a 2024 BMW 118i that remains under warranty, has never been involved in any accident or impact, and has not undergone any modification. Nevertheless, three of the four rear taillight assemblies have developed hairline cracks and are allowing water intrusion. I consider this to be a manufacturing or material defect rather than user-caused damage.

Therefore, I request that all rear taillight assemblies on my vehicle be replaced free of charge under warranty as soon as possible and that confirmation of this process be provided to me in writing.
