Turkish Airlines Refund for Refundable Return Ticket Unjustly Low

In August, I purchased a round-trip ticket from New York to İzmir via Turkish Airlines (THY) and paid extra for a refundable option. After canceling my return ticket, I was shocked to learn that THY would only refund $407, despite paying a total of $2038 for the round-trip ticket.
It’s impossible to find a one-way ticket from Istanbul for $407, as even at the time of booking, return tickets on THY’s website were never under $600. Since round-trip tickets don’t show itemized costs, this low refund feels unfair and misleading. If cancellation is a possibility, I strongly advise others to book one-way tickets to avoid such exploitation.
I specifically chose THY, my national airline, over cheaper alternatives (some as low as $1500 round-trip) to support them. Instead, I feel taken advantage of. As a student, this experience has been deeply disheartening. I demand a fair refund reflecting the true cost of my canceled return ticket and urge THY to address this issue promptly.
