Turkish Airlines Flight Cancellation Due to Death in Family

April 7, 2024 3:37 PM33

I had purchased round-trip tickets from Istanbul to Trabzon for my wife, her mother, and my daughter for April 8th departure and April 15th return with THY. Their purpose was to visit a sick relative for the holiday, but we received news of our relative's death on April 4th, and they had to travel by car urgently. I contacted THY to cancel the departure, but since both departure and return were under the same PNR code, they said that if we didn't use the outbound flight, we couldn't use the return flight either. I explained that this was not a discretionary situation and requested assistance, but they told me to fill out a feedback form. I filled out the form 3-4 times but received no response. Despite having a death certificate, they said there was nothing they could do. For three days, THY has caused me great distress. I said I would forfeit the outbound flight, but they insisted that if we didn't take the outbound flight, we couldn't take the return flight either, which further affected our mental state. In the end, I canceled all tickets and paid a penalty of ₺1100 per person, totaling ₺3300. I was already facing financial difficulties during the holiday period, and this added to my troubles. THY's policies seem to be aimed at completely victimizing their customers. I hope that whoever is responsible for these policies never gets away with it. Even foreigners wouldn't do what they did. I will write about this everywhere. Despite presenting a death certificate, they penalized both my outbound and return tickets, then resold my canceled seats for ₺6000. Did you become rich from the ₺3300 you took from someone like me? It seems you fund your salaries by penalizing people like us. As a result, you caused me great pain, and I hope you face the same.
