Trip.com Refuses Refund Despite Safety Concerns Over Jordan Layover

On February 9, 2026, I purchased a round-trip flight ticket through Trip.com with Royal Jordanian Airlines, departing from Istanbul on March 6, 2026 at 10:10 PM, arriving in Amman on March 7, 2026 at 12:50 AM, and continuing from Amman to Bangkok on March 7, 2026 at 3:35 AM, for a total cost of approximately $937. My reservation number is 1638319144215101.

Because my flight involved a layover in Jordan, I became seriously concerned for my safety due to ongoing military conflict in the region, including airstrikes and nighttime airspace closures. Since both my arrival and departure flights were scheduled during nighttime hours, I decided not to travel under these conditions and submitted a cancellation request through Trip.com four days before my trip. Despite this, I did not receive timely or clear communication about the process.

I later discovered—through my own research and by checking the system records—that the airline had rejected my request. Trip.com did not proactively inform me of this critical update. After learning the airline’s response, I contacted Trip.com again and submitted another cancellation request. However, I only received a negative response on March 12, six days after my scheduled flight date. Throughout this process, I contacted Trip.com customer service via phone and their website, but the company maintained a position that favored the airline rather than supporting me as the customer.

For all these reasons, I believe that Trip.com failed to fulfill its duty of care as a service provider and did not meet reasonable standards of customer service and commercial responsibility. I expect the company to take into account the extraordinary and safety-related circumstances I faced and to provide either a full or partial refund of the ticket price, offer a rebooking option for a later date, or at the very least provide a clear, satisfactory, and respectful explanation regarding the situation.
