I Face Hidden Tax Deduction and Partial Refund on Temu After Product Return

On September 5, 2025, I ordered a DSO152 oscilloscope on Temu. The product page was misleading, as it used scrolling descriptions and presented features from higher models as if they belonged to this one. Because of this, I mistakenly purchased the entry-level DSO152 instead of the DSO510 I originally wanted.

When I realized the mistake, I immediately tried to cancel the order on September 6, but Temu rejected the cancellation since shipping had already started. The package arrived on September 10, and without even opening the original sealed box, I contacted Temu support to arrange a return. I repeatedly asked whether the import tax would be refunded but received vague and non-committal responses. Trusting their assurances, I sent the package back on September 12 via DHL.

Shortly afterward, I received a message claiming my refund was processed. However, in my account, the system showed only that the return process had started and would take 5–14 business days. Only at the very end of this process did Temu reveal that import tax is never refunded, information that was not disclosed earlier.

As a result, out of the ₺2,100 I paid (₺1,330 product cost + ₺770 tax), only ₺1,330 was refunded. The ₺770 import tax was withheld, despite me returning the package unopened.

This lack of transparency and delayed disclosure left me feeling misled and financially harmed. If this policy had been communicated clearly before purchase or return, I would have reconsidered.

I expect Temu to either:

Refund the full ₺2,100, including the import tax, or

Return the product to me without charging any extra fees.

Customers should not be penalized for returning sealed, unused products, especially when refund conditions are revealed only at the end of the process. I urge Temu to correct this unfair practice and restore trust by resolving my case properly.
