I Report Bag Damage And Clothing Loss On Sunexpress İzmir–Cologne Flight

On 23.06.2025 Monday at 22:30, I traveled from İzmir to Cologne with Sunexpress. I checked in my backpack, which contained my clothes. When I retrieved my luggage in Cologne, I was shocked to find my backpack completely deformed and all my clothes torn beyond use. Since it was 4 a.m. and I was traveling with a baby, I could not locate the lost and found office to file a damage report on the spot. However, as soon as I got home, I submitted a claim online, providing all the necessary documents and clear photos to Sunexpress Customer Service and explained the situation in detail.
Unfortunately, Sunexpress neither took responsibility nor provided any solution. Instead, they blamed me, saying that the backpack should have been sturdier. I am facing a financial loss of nearly 15.000₺, yet the airline refuses to compensate me for the damage they caused. How can a passenger be expected to use “flight-proof” luggage without the airline clearly defining what that means? You are responsible for safeguarding both my safety and my property.
I am extremely disappointed by how Sunexpress failed to address my situation. Replacing the damaged items would cost me at least 15.000₺. Why should I bear this cost when the damage was clearly caused during transit?
