Suspicious Call Demands $220 to Repair My Lenovo Tab M10 Under Warranty
After sending my Lenovo Tab M10 in for warranty service, I received a call today from the number 0224 322 09 16. The caller told me that the tablet had arrived at their facility, and that I would need to pay $220 to have it repaired or $69 to have it returned to me unrepaired. The caller did not provide any customer number, case number, or service form reference, and did not clearly identify themselves as an authorized Lenovo service center. Because the payment request struck me as suspicious, I did not make any payment.
I don't believe it's appropriate to be charged additional fees for a product that is still under warranty, and I'm also finding it difficult to determine whether the number that called me has any legitimate connection to Lenovo at all. I'm requesting that Lenovo formally investigate this phone number and the call that was made, that any case opened in my name be reviewed in detail, and that appropriate action be taken if this turns out to be a fraud attempt.
I'm asking that my tablet — which is still within its warranty period — be repaired and shipped back to my address at no additional charge, in accordance with the warranty terms, and that I be given clear written communication about the status of the process.
