I Face Near-Fatal Hot Air Balloon Crash Booked Through GetYourGuide
During the landing of a hot air balloon ride, we were nearly killed. We purchased the hot air balloon tour through GetYourGuide, and the activity provider was Skyway Travel Agency & Tour. The pilot who operated the balloon was unable to land it properly, the basket tipped over, and during the incident my family’s glasses were lost and a phone was broken. We were only grateful that we survived.
During the impact, we suffered bruises and scratches on many parts of our bodies, and we spent the rest of our vacation dealing with muscle pain and physical discomfort. As a result of this incident, we incurred approximately $460 in glasses damage and $2,070 in phone damage. In addition to the financial loss, we experienced serious emotional distress and psychological trauma.
What makes this situation even more troubling is that another family who went up with us was reportedly landed smoothly on a trailer by the same pilot. This raises a serious question: Is no one supervising or inspecting these operations? Are people expected to rely purely on luck and accept a risk that could mean the difference between life and death?
