Etsy Charged Me a Cancellation Fee After I Cancelled an Order Over Customs Concerns
I opened a shop on Etsy on May 6th, selling handmade decorative ornaments, home decor, and canvas products. Last week I received my first order, but since the item was going to ship to the United States, I got worried about running into customs issues. So I messaged the buyer and cancelled the order without shipping the item. Despite this, Etsy charged me a fee of about $6, along with listing fees.
After all this happened, I decided to close my shop. I closed the shop, but I still can't manage to fully close my account. Four days ago, when I tried to close the account, the system showed a warning saying something like "complete your transactions so it can close," but my account doesn't show any outstanding balance. Despite this, Etsy keeps withdrawing money, and I'm seriously worried about unexpected debts showing up in the future.
When opening my account, I was required to upload sensitive personal documents to Etsy's system, including my national ID information and my tradesman exemption certificate. Because Etsy doesn't have phone-accessible customer service — only email, which responds very slowly — I feel completely unprotected and uneasy about the security of my identity information and documents. I recently sent an email to the support team but still haven't received a clear response.
My request from Etsy is: clear confirmation that all debts and payments on my account have been closed, that my account be fully closed as soon as possible, and that all the ID/data information I uploaded to the system be permanently deleted. Even though I don't owe anything, I don't want new debts to appear in the future, and I specifically want to emphasize that I am seriously concerned about the security of my personal data.
