China Southern Charged Me Extra for Baggage Due to Staff Miscalculation

January 19, 2025 3:55 PM47

I traveled with China Southern Airlines on flight CZ8065 from Tokyo to Istanbul, and my experience was incredibly frustrating. According to my ticket, I was entitled to:

2 checked bags (23 kg each),

1 cabin bag (8 kg),

and 1 personal item.

However, my 10 kg cabin bag was refused at the gate, even though it slightly exceeded the limit. That alone was unfair, but worse came next—I was charged an extra fee because one of my checked bags weighed 30 kg. I wouldn’t have objected if it had been handled fairly, but the baggage fee kept changing because of the staff's poor math and unprofessional behavior.

First, they told me I had to pay 13,000 yen, then they suddenly increased it to 26,000 yen, and finally to 55,000 yen, without justification. I was even told to take my belongings and leave, which I found incredibly disrespectful.

I am requesting a full refund of the unjustified extra baggage fee and a formal explanation. This kind of treatment and lack of consistency is unacceptable from an international airline. I strongly urge China Southern Airlines to train their staff properly and ensure their baggage policies are applied clearly and respectfully.
