Beck Taxi Driver Charged $80 for Short Ride

I am writing on behalf of my elderly mother to report a serious issue with Beck Taxi cab #950 in Toronto. On Thursday, August 27 at around 1:00 p.m., she called a taxi from her home to go to the Shoppers Drug Mart near St. Clair and Bathurst, which is about a 5–6 minute ride and normally costs around $6.00–$10.00. When the driver dropped her off, he told her the fare was $80.00. My mother questioned the amount, and the driver claimed it was because of traffic. She only had $6.00 in smaller bills and a $100 bill. He insisted that $6.00 was not enough, so she had to go inside Shoppers Drug Mart to get change. The driver followed her inside, stood behind her, took back the $6.00 and then took $80.00 in cash from her. There is no reasonable way this very short trip should cost anywhere near that amount, and it is clear he took advantage of an elderly woman. I have already spoken with a supervisor at Beck Taxi, supervisor ID #1157, and a case has been opened under number 17260362A. I am requesting a full refund of the $80.00 that was taken from my mother and a formal investigation into the conduct of the driver of cab #950. I would also like a written statement from the driver explaining his version of events so that I can provide it to the police, as I intend to file a police report regarding this incident. There are cameras in the taxi as well as security cameras at Shoppers Drug Mart, which should clearly show what happened and support this complaint. I ask that you review the footage, take this matter seriously, and inform us in writing of the outcome of your investigation and the steps you will take regarding the driver.
