I have Allianz Complementary Health Insurance. Recently, I went to Antalya Medical Park Hospital with complaints of fatigue, weakness, and numbness in my body. I first visited the neurology department, where the doctor was very attentive and requested some blood tests and an EMG after the examination. Then, I went to the chest diseases department, where the specialist suspected sleep apnea and recommended a sleep test, stating that many health insurance companies cover it. I then went to the private insurance unit for authorization. The next day, Mr. U*** informed me that my insurance provider, Allianz, had denied coverage for the sleep test. I was genuinely surprised. The purpose of health insurance is to protect individuals from potential future health problems, to offer assurance and coverage. As far as I know, sleep apnea is a condition that can develop over time. If that's the case, then what’s the point of having insurance? This experience made me lose trust in Allianz. I now worry that, in case of a serious illness, they won’t stand by me and will just come up with excuses. I work at the Ministry of Trade, and many of my colleagues and their families use Allianz. But I will definitely share this negative experience with all of them. Honestly, the main reason I chose to get private health insurance was to receive attentive, hygienic, and efficient care in private hospitals when dealing with common illnesses like the flu. I’ve used the insurance exactly for that purpose. Otherwise, our country already offers excellent healthcare services, well above international standards. We can get all kinds of tests and treatments done at state hospitals, including university hospitals, even sleep tests, under our regular insurance. After all this trouble, I see no reason to pay thousands of lira for complementary health insurance. I’d rather go to a state hospital and keep my money. My policy is also up for renewal, but I won’t be renewing it. I’ve learned my lesson and will never work with Allianz again.
