Allianz Refused Emergency Serum Coverage: Fix Outpatient Rejection
On 29.06.2026, I purchased a complementary health insurance policy from Allianz Sigorta with policy number 0001071010488499. On 21.07.2026, I applied to the emergency department of Bursa Medicana Hospital due to high fever. In the emergency room, I was examined by a doctor, laboratory tests were requested, serum was administered and I was kept under short-term observation, after which I left the hospital. During this process, my complementary health insurance policy covered the doctor’s examination and the tests, but did not cover the cost of the serum. When I checked the provision details via the Allianz mobile application, I saw that the reason for rejection was stated as “waiting period”. When I called the Allianz provision hotline, I was told that because serum was administered in the emergency room and I was under observation during that time, the transaction was considered as inpatient treatment and therefore no provision was granted. I stated that I know there is no waiting period for outpatient treatment and that such a short emergency observation cannot be considered inpatient treatment. I stayed in the hospital for less than 2 hours in total, I was not admitted as an inpatient and there was no actual inpatient treatment process. Despite this, Allianz treated this transaction as if it were inpatient treatment and did not cover the serum cost. I believe this is inconsistent both with the information in my policy and with the experiences of people around me who also have complementary health insurance. From the checks I made with people around me who have complementary health insurance, and from the sources I reviewed online, I saw that serums administered under short-term observation in the emergency department are evaluated as outpatient treatment, not inpatient treatment. Nevertheless, Allianz’s interpretation of my case in the opposite way and its refusal to pay the serum cost is causing me a financial grievance. I kindly request that Allianz evaluate the serum procedure performed in the emergency department of Bursa Medicana Hospital on 21.07.2026 under the scope of outpatient treatment and cover the serum cost of ₺1,440.22 within the coverage of my complementary health policy.
